In 1868, George Hull bought a 10 ft block of gypsum from a Fort Dodge, IA quarry. He secretly had it carved into the image of a giant & had it buried where men digging a well near Cardiff, NY would stumble upon it. It was one of the biggest hoaxes of the 19th century. Even P.T. Barnum attempted to cash in on its notoriety. Don’t be fooled; this ESB (Extra Special Bitter) amber ale, originating from Buton-on-Trent Egland, has rich amounts of gypsum in its water lending to its characteristic malty and crisp hopped flavor, making it quite an easy drink. 5.4% AVB, 29 IBU
Did you know there is gold in Brushy Creek State Park and that people actually pan for gold their as a hobby. This IPA is all about gold; it’s brewed with pilsner & specialty caramel malts to give this beer it’s golden color, and with high alpha acid & bright & citrusy flavored hops. Then this beer is dry hopped with none other than El Dorado hops, The City of Gold, providing a flavor of the tropics and golden pears.

The first American wheat penny was minted in 1909 and meant to symbolize our agricultural prosperity. Now considered a collector's item, the wheat penny was one of the longest running minted coins in American history. You can still come across these increasingly rare coins in circulation. What better way to honor the American wheat penny than to emblemize it with our classic American Wheat beer.

Named after the Local Blues Rock Band "Brutal Republic" for their charity & scholarship fundraising, this Schwarzbier is made with a very dark roasted malt for its signature color and flavor. Classic German noble hops are used for a continental European flavor, herbal and spicy. It's lighter than a stout, but with the same chocolate and coffee notes. Smooth and delicious.

Oxbow Orange is a traditional light lager flavored with blood orange giving this very popular beer a clean and refreshing flavor.

Our Saison is in keeping with this Belgian style by being a little on the dry and spicy side. Its malts are pale and golden, clean and crisp, holding up to the spicier tones of the noble hops. It’s a good, solid, traditional farmhouse ale.

This beer is a one of a few beers we make that is a shout-out to Iowa’s natural fauna. The malty, roasted taste of a smooth brown ale nicely blended with English hops is contrasted by the sly fruitiness of black cherry in this decidedly enjoyable beverage. It’s become an instant favorite with many of our customers.

Did you know the civil war nearly started here in Iowa in 1838, 22 years earlier than when it started? This honey nut brown ale is a tribute to the bloodless 1838 Honey War and Iowa Honey production. This brown ale is dominant with its dark malts bringing a roasted, coffee-like flavor, and slightly spicy hops that don’t overwhelm, but enhance. Honey brings it all together.

Springtime wouldn’t be the same without Bockfest, and this year we’ve patiently waited for this hearty amber lager and the return of warm weather! Those familiar with the style will recognize the spicy yet floral hops of Europe, and rich golden malts with a lightly sweet toasted bread-like flavor.

Celebrating Iowa’s Irish roots; our new Irish red ale is made with malts with a full round flavor and notes of strong caramel and toffee, and a robust, full body with a beautiful reddish color. It’s hopped for a mild and pleasant flavor with slightly spicy and floral tones. Two separate occasions homebrew judges visiting our taproom have commented that our Irish red is one of the best they’ve tasted.

Peanut butter lovers, prepare for childhood flashback when you taste this delicious treat. No!, not that time you snuck a drink of dad's warm can of stale beer. Get taken back to that first time mom made you your first slice of peanut butter toast or a peanut butter milkshake. Nine unique malts, grains, & adjuncts give this beer its lightly sweet, chocolatey, roasted, and silky smooth flavors. The flavor and aroma of peanut butter brings it all together.

“It’s the quenchiest.” Our Lemon Shandy is a light, lemony & tangy beer perfect for hot summer days. This beer has become our biggest seller surpassing even our very popular light lager. This isn’t a ½ beer / ½ lemonade knock-off; it’s 100% beer so good that it has given customers goosebumps.

This beer is so popular, some businesses have us can & package it in their own house beer labels. For everyone who says they only drink “domestic” light beers, this will be a surprise. Light in color, light in calories, but with a solid malt flavor and balanced Pilsner-style hops. Very smooth & refreshing.

Royal Blue is a Blueberry Gose, a traditional blueberry flavored German style kettle sour beer brewed with special fruity hops that complement the blueberry flavor.

The best ambassador is a good beer. This beer is an homage to the late 1800’s Mexican lagers that were greatly influenced by Austrian immigrants to Mexico. This Vienna-style Mexican lager is produced using a traditional 3 step mashing process designed to convert & extract multiple types of sugars from its special grains. This process produces a complex and subtly sweet malty flavor you don’t see in beers that have less than 6% alcohol.

Serious misbehaving going on with this beer. Take a subtle soft German style wheat beer, then add a blast of Bing cherries known for their intensely sweet and subtle tartness and a bright, tangy aftertaste. You'll feel like you're in a high adrenaline action movie and begging for a squeal.

This is another brown ale that is a shout-out to Iowa’s natural fauna. If the beautiful artwork doesn't take your breath away, the mix of cranberries and vanilla in this dark brown malty beer certainly will. This beer is a winter and springtime hit.
